A gangster is a criminal who is a member of a gang.
Some gangs are considered to be part of organized crime. Gangsters are also
called mobsters, a term derived from mob and the suffix -ster. Gangs provide a level of organization and
resources that support much larger and more complex criminal transactions than
an individual criminal could achieve. Gangsters have been active for many years
in countries around the world. Some gangsters, perhaps most notably Al Capone,
have become famous. Gangsters are the subject of many movies, particularly from
the period between 1930 and 1960. The term "Gangster" is now used for
members of street gangs.
Jamaican-British Yardies
Jamaican-British Yardies is a Jamaican gang who
immigrated to Britain in the 1950s. They were involved in gang violence and
came to be known as Yardies. This gang of organized crimes like drug trade and
other gun crimes. They have not tried infiltrating the law enforcement system
so they are not considered as strong as other mafia groups.
The Albanian Mafia
Albanian Mafia consists of a large number of
criminal organizations based in Albania. They are active in U.S. and European
countries as well. It is said that the Albanian mafia spread to international
levels since the 1980s. In the United States and United Kingdom, they run sex
and drug trafficking. This mafia group known quickly using rapid violence for
vengeance.
The Serbian mafia
Serbian mafia operates in more than ten nations
including Germany, United States, United Kingdom, France, etc.. They are
involved in different activities such as drug trafficking, smuggling, contract
killing, gambling and gen thefts. There are three major groups, namely
Vozdovac, Surcin and Zemun which control the smaller groups. Currently there
are about 30-40 groups working in Serbia.
Israeli Mafia
Israeli Mafia works in a lot of countries in
activities such as drug trafficking and prostitution. They are notorious and
not think twice about killing. Russian-Israeli Mafia has permeated the U.S.
political system so that U.S. forces failed to achieve significant progress to
stop them.
Mexican Mafia
Mexican Mafia is a very strong prison gang in the
United States, beginning in the late 1950s to protect prisoners against other
inmates and from the officers. The gang has also been involved in extortion and
drug trafficking. Noted, this gang has about 30,000 members across the United
States. The gang members sometimes get a tattoo with a common design which is a
Mexican national symbol.
Japanese Yakuza
Japanese Yakuza is a native organized crime group
since the 17th century who used threats and blackmail to launch their mission.
Often, as a sign of a symbol of faithfulness, they cut off the little finger
members. Connections little finger is often offered to the leader as an act of
appeasement or apology. Some members even have full body tattoos.
Recorded, Yakuza has 110,000 active members. Activities they are involved in
many things such as action protection, importing uncensored pornography from
Europe and America, prostitution and illegal immigration.
Chinese Triads
The gang was started there in the 18th century
but the first is called Tian Di Hui. Chinese Triads consists of many criminal
organizations which are based in Mainland China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan,
Singapore, etc.. They are also very active in New York, Los Angeles, Seattle,
Vancouver is also San Francisco. Their organized crime involves theft, contract
killing, drug trafficking, extortion, etc.. Suspected, Triads now
involved in piracy as well.
Colombian Drug Cartels
Colombian Drug Cartels were formed mainly for
controlling drug trafficking. They operate in many countries, with a number of
organizations that deal with political, military and legal aspects of the
cartels. Cartels are important from Columbia Cartel Cali, Medellin Cartel and
Norte del Valle Cartel. They have also been involved in a lot of kidnappings
and terrorism.
Sicilian and American Cosa Nostra
Sicilian and American Cosa Nostra is a relatively
new group. Beginning in the second half of the nineteenth century in Italy.
Although still considered a young mafia, this group has a great ability to plan
large crimes and get away with it. Infiltration members and influence in the
American legal institutions could make a big war with a group of law
enforcement. Their activities like mafia group action
generally, involved in drugs, arms trafficking, mediation of criminal business,
and more. Members of this group are usually not very big, only about 3500-4000
people. A member must undergo the initiation ceremony where he might have to
kill someone to prove himself.
Russian Mafia
Russian Mafia originated in the Soviet Union and
now has influence all over the world. Followers between 100,000 to 500,000
members. As long as they are involved in organized crimes in countries like
Israel, Hungary, Spain, Canada, UK, USA, Russia, etc.. They have also
immigrated to Israel, America and Germany by using Jewish and German
identities. Their activities include drug and firearm
trafficking, bombings, smuggling, pornography, internet fraud, etc.. If one
member of the "silent" when captured, they would be killed upon
release.
