Archeologists said they would
uncover secrets of Stonehenge, the majestic stone monuments megalistik in South
England - and when were the first standing stones placed at the ancient
religious site?
Concentric stone circles that
make up Stonehenge, 130 kilometers southwest of London on the vast Salisbury
plain, consisting of huge sandstone blocks and smaller bluestones
bluish-colored volcanic rock with white spots.
Experts Stonehenge, Tim Darvill
and Geoff Wainwright will use modern techniques to calculate the age of the
carbon and powder analyze soil (soil) and sea shells to find out when the
stones were arranged, in the first archaeological excavations (ancient objects)
at the World Heritage since , 1964.
"If you want to know why
Stonehenge was built, you need to look as far as 250 miles to the hills of
North Pembrokeshire Presili, from which the bluestones (blue stone) first to
build Stonehenge came from." Wainwright said this to reporters during a
two-week excavation begins.
The two archaeologists, who
have worked hard in the hills Presili (Presili Hills) in recent years, the
trust bluestones, is forming the first stone circle at Stonehenge, have magical
healing powers.
Stones that stood firm was
founded 5,000 years ago, ahead of the older religious places, marked by a mound
of earth embankment or a single wheeled carts.
"If you want to know when
the first stone laid at Stonehenge, you need to dig a small trench around the
connection stones and date on what you find. That is what we are doing today,
"said Wainwright.
The theory of the role of
Stonehenge range from supranatual-one says the legendary sorcerer
Merlin-building offerings were made to link the worship of the sun.
Wainwright, president of the
Society of antiquaries, and Darvill, professor of archeology at Bournemouth
University, hope their findings will support their theory that Stonehenge is
the same as a healthy spa in ancient times.
"This is a place of healing
for the soul and body," said Darvill. "The Presili Hills is a magical
place. The stones from there are considered to have healing powers.
A total of 80 bluestones, each
weigh between 1 to 4 tons. Transported by land and sea from South Wales to
Salisbury Plain between 4500 and 5000 years ago.
Only about one-third remained
in its original location, the rest have been stolen or destroyed between ma
thousands of years.
"In the early 1900s there
were signs in Amesbury (the nearest town to the site) offering for rent a
hammer so that people can come to pick up their own little bluestone
rocks," said Darvill.
They differ with sandstone
'sarsens' used to make the monument quickly identifiable.
Excavation has even been
approved by the Druids, spiritual descendants of the learned priests before
Celt ic Christian Europe, which has ties to the ancient sites.
